The Benefits of Yoga

When we learn about the benefits of Yoga we can see why it’s becoming more and more popular within all different walks of life and why it’s perfect for everyone to practice to bring an inner calmness to the mind.

There are numerous benefits to Yoga:

  • Improves strength
  • Increases joint mobility and flexibility
  • Boosts your immune system
  • Strengthens lung capacity
  • Combats tiredness
  • Develops concentration
  • Encourages a healthy digestive system
  • Improves posture
  • Increases range of motion and sports performance
  • Counters stress & anxiety and releases trapped tension
  • Allows time for self-reflection

The list goes on!


Yoga at Ribby Hall Village

I’ve always had a strong interest in mind and body classes including Pilates and decided to try Ashtanga Yoga; a dynamic, athletic form of Yoga which calms the mind, improves circulation, coordination, strength, endurance and flexibility (it’s generally known as the Yoga Madonna practices!).

This class challenged me in a different way than I had ever imagined, after three classes I wasn’t chanting nor could I recite the unusual Indian names like Dandasana, Padmasana (seated poses) Natarajasana (balancing) and Sanskrit (headstand). But, due to good tuition and an encouraging instructor I am proud to say I can perform a headstand!

I was little unsure that Yoga could release trapped tension in the body, but now I know it works I’m hooked! I feel like I actually get what everyone’s been on about for all these years. I ask myself is it my age or something I just needed in my life right now? Who knows, but I definitely feel an inner calmness after each class and it certainly helps achieve that ‘Work Life Balance!’ Am I entering a new phase?
