Pole Vault Training Update

It has been a good Indoor Pole Vault season so far.  I came 2nd at the British Championships and Indoor European Trials with 5.43metres.  I have two more competitions left, both will be in Cardiff and then the Indoor season will be finished.  I then have a warm weather training camp for 9 days in Sant Cugat near Barcelona.

I haven’t managed to go to Europe for any international competitions so far this year because a few airlines have now said they won’t carry pole vault poles which gives me very limited flying opportunities (someone will have to drive the poles to Sant Cugat; luckily it’s not me).

This year I have found it hard to fit my training sessions in during the working day so I have been getting it done early in the morning which has been a bit of a shock to my system because I am more of a night owl than an early bird. However, I have adjusted to it quite well! I am really looking forward to getting back into the sauna after my workouts to aid my recovery.  Not long now until the swimming pool and thermal recovery is all finished.

I am aiming for the World Championships which is to be held in London this year.  My PB is 5.64metres and the qualifying mark is 5.70metres.  Also the qualification for the Commonwealth Games Gold Coast Australia is September this year so I need to jump 5.50m by then.

Train hard and push yourselves in whichever area of personal development is relevant to you – flexibility, strength, endurance.

I’ll keep you posted on my outdoor season and hopefully qualify in time for the World Champs.
