Take a moment. A deep breath in… how do you feel? How do you really feel? Is your jaw clenched? Relax those shoulders. Now let’s chat about the practice of being Zen.

What does the word ‘Zen’ actually mean? It’s bounded around a lot in our busy, over-stimulated and sometimes frantic culture, but what is the true definition? It’s meaning is ‘to feel relaxed and not worrying about what one can’t change.’

Simple right?

In reality the art of practicing Zen means being mindful, practicing gratitude and immersing ourselves in the simplicities of life, focusing on what truly matters rather than what we can’t control.

At The Spa Hotel this ethos is at the heart of everything we do, our very existence was born out of the practice of Zen. Our ultimate aim is for you to leave us having re-connected with your inner Zen, ready to deal with whatever life should throw at you on the outside world.

Each step of your Spa experience has been carefully curated. From the moment you dip your toes in to the calm waters of the Aqua Thermal Journey, enjoying a restful moment in the relaxation room after a long hot stones massage, settling down in to the outdoor hot tub and enjoying a moment of gratitude, to choosing your pillow for the most restful night sleep possible.

Each little ‘Zen’ moment will lead to you becoming the most relaxed version of you.

But, Zen isn’t just something you experience at a spa—it’s a mindset that you can cultivate in your everyday life. Here are a few simple tips to help you bring more Zen into your own environment:

  1. Devote time to sitting peacefully or meditating: Even just a few minutes of quiet reflection each day can help calm your mind and reduce stress.
  2. Do one thing at a time: In a world that glorifies multitasking, focusing on one task at a time can be a radical act of self-care. Take joy in the simple act of doing, whether it’s cooking a meal, watering the plants, or taking a walk.
  3. Practice gratitude: It’s easy to get caught up in negativity and dissatisfaction, but taking the time to acknowledge the things we’re thankful for can shift our perspective and bring more positivity into our lives. Keep a gratitude journal or simply take a moment each day to think about the things you appreciate.
  4. Devote time to self-care: Self-care looks different for everyone, whether it’s going for a walk in nature, curling up with a good book, or treating yourself to a massage. Whatever form it takes, prioritise activities that nourish your body, mind, and soul.

By incorporating these simple practices into your daily routine, you can cultivate a greater sense of peace, joy, and contentment. So take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, and embrace the practice of Zen in your own life.
